Shelley and I just returned from a full week in Cancun, and I can honestly say I have never felt safer traveling in Mexico.

During our trip we explored resorts, spoke with locals, toured properties, and spent time in the Playa Mujeres area, just north of Cancun. What we experienced firsthand was a welcoming, safe, and incredibly well-run destination that thrives on tourism and hospitality.

We also toured Excellence Playa Mujeres, another fantastic adults-only all-inclusive resort.

Excellence is known for delivering high-end service and a romantic atmosphere, making it extremely popular for honeymoons and couples’ getaways.

What stood out during our visit:

• Spacious suites (many with swim-up options)

• Relaxed luxury atmosphere

• Outstanding service and dining options

This resort consistently delivers a luxury all-inclusive experience without feeling overcrowded, which is something many travelers appreciate.

Addressing the Safety Concerns About Mexico

Recently, many travelers have asked about safety after hearing about violence in Puerto Vallarta.

The reality is that the incident there was an isolated event, and situations like this unfortunately happen everywhere—including in the United States.

We regularly see protests or incidents in major U.S. cities such as New York City, Chicago, or Los Angeles. Yet people still travel to those cities every day.

The same perspective should be applied when evaluating travel destinations internationally.

What often makes things seem worse is how quickly social media spreads dramatic headlines or even false information. AI-generated images, recycled news stories, and viral posts can create the impression that danger is everywhere when that simply isn’t the case.

What We Experienced in Cancun

During our entire week in Cancun and Playa Mujeres we experienced:

• Friendly and welcoming locals

• Well-maintained resort areas

• Professional hospitality staff

• Clean, safe environments

Tourism is a major part of Mexico’s economy, and the people working in hospitality genuinely want visitors to feel welcome and safe.

We were reminded again and again how warm and gracious Mexican culture truly is.

Based on our recent trip, the answer is simple:

Yes—Mexico remains one of the best and safest international destinations for travelers.
